Mental Health Monday: Meet Our Expert

Hi moms! My name is Jade Savage, and I am in the last leg of my master’s program at Grand Canyon University, currently working as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor Intern. Throughout my undergrad and graduate programs, my passion of helping mothers and young kiddos flourished by specifically examining mental health dynamics and strategies that affect mothers and children. With all that said, here is my goal: I want to be here for you. A big part of maternal mental health is creating a safe space for mothers to feel heard, welcomed, and supported.

Perinatal mental health (including prenatal and postnatal, or the whole pregnancy period) is extremely important to examine. Women who experience mental health distress and do not work to resolve this, are known to have negative mental health distresses and symptoms for a longer period of time. For example, if a pregnant woman is struggling with anxiety during pregnancy, they are more likely to continue to experience anxiety after pregnancy, which can negatively affect the development of the child both in and out of the womb. Now, I am not saying this to scare or shame anyone. I want to do the complete opposite. I want you to know that your struggles are heard, that your pain is not going unnoticed, and there is light at the end of the tunnel. Knowledge is power and I want you all to be equipped!

Our early experiences and feelings in life are important. It is essential that we help our children grow up to be healthy and safe adults. As mothers, this job can feel overwhelming, wondering if you are doing okay to help your children and how to navigate their big emotions. Another major focus is going to be on children and their mental health and tools that we can use to help them with their feelings and life events.

Topics that can be expected throughout these blogs include perinatal anxiety and depression, postpartum anxiety and depression, PTSD, general mental health strategies, self-care and support, anxiety in children, big life events in children, big emotions with children, coping strategies for children, and more… Further, I want to offer mental health insight and support such as psychoeducation (data and research), information, tips for coping, tips for taking care of mental health, interventions and strategies, and implementation into daily life.

I want this blog to be insightful, educational, supportive, and leave you feeling empowered and safe. With that being said, this is not a form of therapy/counseling. If you are experiencing negative mental health symptoms, I encourage you to reach out to a local mental health professional so that you are able to get direct help.

Lastly, if there are any questions or topics that you feel you would like addressed and discussed, send an email to hello@momssociety.com or post in the mental health group in The Moms Society community, and I will do my best to answer the needs of you momma’s!
