Cinco De Mayo has everything we love about a holiday – warm(er) weather, bright, colorful decorations, joyous festivities, historical significance, and an excuse to eat Mexican food. (Just kidding! Who needs an excuse?) Interestingly, although the holiday commemorates the day the Mexican army won an amazing victory over Napoleon III’s army at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, it’s actually become more popular here in the United States. Today, it’s really about celebrating Mexican and Mexican-American culture. Take some time to teach your kids about the real story behind the holiday, and put together a Cinco De Mayo party your guests won’t forget! (Well, unless they drink too much tequila.)
